Tivoli Wine Library

In Tivoli, Cheltenham is a magical place called Tivoli Wine Library. It’s a room above the Tivoli Wines shop, with capacity for around 20-25 people. A visit to the Wine Library is a one of kind experience in Gloucestershire and as far as we’re aware, it’s the only place of its kind in the Cotswolds too. The Wine Library is celebrating its 1st birthday in November 2019!

How does it work?

At the Wine Library, guests have the chance to sample wine in 3 measures – a tot, glug, small glass (samples of 25ml, 75ml or 125ml) from up to 32 fine International and British bottles, in one sesh! The wine collection is curated by the Tivoli Wines team.

The Wine Library is kitted out with Enomatic wine dispensers that controls temperature and prevents oxidisation of the wine. These pieces of kit are hugely beneficial for sellers of wine, but especially for small, independent businesses who are looking to reduce waste as much as possible and keeps the wine in optimum condition for longer.

On arrival

Upon arrival we were given a reusable top-up card to load with a minimum of £5. We whacked on £20 to start and hit the machines like in a Vegas casino (although way more sophisticated)! Each wine has its own value attached to it, so for example, a tot of wine starts from around 89p, going up slightly in price from that point. It means there’s something for every budget and you can spend as little as you like (minimum top-up £5), or the sky’s the limit. A trained member of staff is with you to discuss the wine if you wanted to know more.

Customers can reserve individual tables or book the entire venue for a special occasion (it gets booked out quite often for public and private parties and ticketed themed events). It’s always worth booking as far in advance as you can.

Deli boards

Cheese or cheese and meat deli boards are available but must be pre-booked, as they’re supplied by a local deli. On our board was a delicious selection of 4 types of salami and 4 types of cheese, stuffed peppers, grapes, dried fruit and stacks of crackers and bread, all very well suited for pairing with wine. At £7 per person these deli boards was excellent value and our request for a gluten free selection of crackers for one of our party was no issue.

The vibe was super-chilled and we felt you can go knowing nothing about the world of wine, or go knowing everything and be welcomed with open arms to enjoy this unusual opportunity! As you taste your way round the 32 wines you can learn a little about each one thanks to the helpful information cards above.
