The Ox is a great restaurant in the centre of Cheltenham. Helen and I decided to go near my birthday this year for their set dinner menu which you can get from 5pm to 7pm.
The set menu consists of a 6oz rump steak, fries, sauce and a glass of the house wine, all for only £14. We asked to sit outside as it was a nice evening (this was mid-August) and were shown to our seats by a friendly and funny waiter.
We ordered a drink off-menu, our food and the house wine plus the Marmite butter cauliflower side. The setting is great and I loved being able to sit outside on a nice evening. This part of Cheltenham is close to the centre there really isn’t very much traffic or too much noise (depending on the time of day I would think it changes a lot).
Our steaks came and they were amazing. The fries were nice and crisp with a perfect saltiness. The peppercorn sauce I had was really nice too, just the right amount with just the right peppery kick too.
Now for The Ox’s Marmite butter cauliflower…it was amazing! So good in fact that is Helen and I have created our own recipe and we have it a couple of times a month (recipe to be added to the blog soon).
The food was great, as was the service. I don’t think there was anything I can fault about the whole experience apart from being sat outside with smokers which I understand is part and parcel of sitting outside and that was our choice.
We’re recommended The Ox to lots of people since going and everyone has enjoyed themselves.
4/5 with no hesitation.
