It’s the season for outside Cinema (by far the best way to enjoy a film) and throughout Summer 2019, The Alfresco Film Company will be screening some absolute classics at Cowley Manor, a luxurious country house retreat between Cheltenham and Cirencester. This experience is also one of Cotswold Life’s reccommended outdoor cinema events.
On Thursday 18th July, Helen and I (Kerry) came to see Julia Roberts act to oblivion in My Best Friend’s Wedding, while we chilled out poolside at Cowley’s gorgeous C-Side Spa and forgot about the rest of life entirely. BLISS!
Poolside Cinema tickets cost £25 which includes a cocktail, bag of popcorn and a fun selection of retro sweets to munch on. #simplepleasures #squee.
Terrace cinema viewings (film screenings on the lawn) are £15 and excludes drinks and treats.
Use of the stylish recliners, blankets and headphones is provided at no extra cost.
Before the film began at 9:30pm, we ordered some extra food – three little dishes consisting of a beetroot salad, Scotch egg and pitta with hummus, all of which were kindly delivered to our seats so we didn’t have to lift a finger!
Cowley knows how to do alfresco dining and if you’re after something a little more unique, you can pre-order a special picnic basket, or probably pretty much anything from the menu with enough notice.
As the natural light disappeared, the candles and low lights softly illuminated the pool and the path back to the Spa, where you’d find the loos and the reception. The atmosphere was perfect for the occasion.

The film wrapped up at 11:30pm and even on a warm day it really does chill off at that time of the night and we were very grateful for the blankets. Trudging home wasn’t fun after such a luxurious experience, but all good things must come to an end.
